Westfield has just had a whole school focus day on Rights and Responsibilities. During this day pupils from across the whole school worked both in their class groups, and in their different subject lessons, on linking what we do each day with children’s rights and responsibilities.
Pupils created charters for their classrooms and took part in all kinds of activities to highlight the ways in which our rights and responsibilities have an impact on us all every day.
Work in the primary department focussed on areas such as the difference between the things we want and the things we need, whereas in the secondary department, links were made with the capacity topic and maths and children’s right to have fresh clean water, as well as links being made through art to articles 12 and 13 relating to children’s right to express themselves.
At the end of the day every pupils was given their own copy of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. 
This day was set to be a springboard into the new school year, beginning to bring the Rights Respecting Schools agenda into every aspect of Westfield life.
