Moving to Westfield – information about transition

Joining Westfield
You might be about to move from your nursery or school to join Westfield as a new pupil. If this is the case you might be feeling nervous or maybe excited, or you might have some questions. You might be worried about making friends, where your classroom will be, who your teacher will be.

A friendly place
We can tell you that Westfield is a very friendly place. There is always someone to help. We believe in treating people with kindness and care, especially if they are worried about something. So try not to worry and think instead what you are most looking forward to and what you would like to do when you are a Westfield pupil.

Looking around
We welcome visits to the school (by appointment) but still recommend having a look at our virtual tour.

We made two videos (see below) to help our new pupils to start to feel at home. The first video is a tour of the whole school including classrooms, special teaching rooms, our gym, playground and allotment. The second video is a tour of Fleet and Chesil classes, which are our Early Years and Key Stage 1 classes.

(Please note that these videos are posted from our private YouTube channel and not available to the wider public)

Transition activities and events
Before the end of the summer term in July we hold a number of sessions to support the transition for new pupils. These involve:

  • Our Transition lead will make direct contact with your child’s current setting
  • photos of the class teacher, classrooms and other areas of the school will be sent to your child’s current setting so that they can support the transition
  • Information will be sent directly to the family
  • You will be invited to a meeting for new parent carers

If you are joining Westfield at another time during the year then we will arrange a personal transition for you based on your needs and to make sure you feel comfortable and happy.

Buying school uniform
If you would like to buy uniform it is available online.
