A close working relationship with parents is crucial if we are to make the best contribution to each pupil’s learning and development that we can. We are always conscious that parents and carers are the most important people in a child’s life and we try to ensure that everything we do is in close partnership with home.
Our Pupil and Parent Support Workers (PAPS) are available to work alongside parents and carers, ensuring that there is a shared approach between home and school. The approach is always low key and supportive – and there’s often coffee and cake in the mix somewhere!
For parents and carers of pupils with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Westfield’s long established EarlyBird and EarlyBird Plus programmes provide tuition and support in meeting the needs of young people with ASD up to the age of 16. If you would like to know more about these programmes please contact the school. Ongoing support after the programmes is available to parents and carers through the Westfield ASD Support Group.
The Dorset Parent-Carer Council is an organisation working for the parents and carers of children and young people in Dorset with additional needs or disability. Please view their website for further information www.dorsetparentcarercouncil.co.uk/
