AIR is delighted to announce they were finalists in the National Arqiva Schools Radio Station of the Year 2012. AIR also received a special commendation at the awards ceremony which was held on the terrace at the House of Commons earlier this year.
Station manager Carl Greenham said they were extremely pleased to have been recognised in the national awards.
He added: “It’s a real honour to be shortlisted as finalists for this national award.
“It’s a prestigious award and to be recognised as one of the best in the country is a fantastic achievement for everyone at the Westfield Arts College.
“The students here feel so proud about the station and their involvement.”
Three students from Westfield attended the Awards ceremony in London and received the award on behalf of Westfield and AIR from the deputy speaker of the House of Commons, they also met radio ledgends Paul Gambaccini and Nicolas Parsons as well as The RT Honorable Richard Drax MP. The students were a credit to the school and everyone was delighted to meet them.
The students had to submit a production demo and they used their entry to highlight all the different things they had done across the last 12 months from celebrity interviews to commercials they had made.
Mr Greenham said: “It’s a great record of what we have done over the last year. It’s brilliant – the kids love it. We have come this far and we are really proud of where we have gone and what we have achieved in the last 12 months.
