On Tuesday we took a group of students from KS4/5 to Bath to perform at the Egg Theatre as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival. Connections is the National Theatre’s annual festival of new plays for youth theatres and schools. It gives young people experience of professional theatre-making. Their experience mirrors that of a company producing a new play in any theatre in the country.
‘The School Film’ by Patrick Marber was about a group of students watching the 1946 film of ‘Great Expectations’; their reactions to the film and to each other. This was a difficult script to work on but our students produced a brilliant performance showing great acting skills and excellent focus. Their ability to work together as a cast was superb. It was a long day, most were at school by 6.30 am and we returned back to school at 11pm, but throughout the day they were a pleasure to be with and worked as hard as they possibly could.
Many thanks to all the parents who brought all the students to school so early and picked them up so late.
