We have just completed our Arts Enrichment film
themed days, and what a great time we’ve had. The aim was to raise awareness of film and to develop our existing skills and learn some new ones. I think it’s fair to say that many of us, both staff and pupils achieved this!
Staff and visiting professionals ran workshops from making zoetrope’s’, Bollywood Dancing, stunt workshops, silent movie workshops to sugar paste Rio bird characters. Students watched films, watched a live performance of Jungle Book, had signed stories, went to the cinema in Weymouth, made films, went to Brownsea island, walked through trays of cornflakes to make movie sound effects, made animations, made music, had great fun with the Green screen, some even had their images put into movies posters. So many activities that I’ve had to miss some out. We finished the programme with our very own Film Award ceremony where we watched all the films and presented prizes and our WAFTA’s (Westfield Arts Film Awards). A panel of judges, kindly headed by our Chair of Governors voted on the various categories for the amazing films that pupils, led by their form tutors, had made in just one day.
We had ‘Kids, Camera Action’, a Dorset based company in for one day making a 
documentary style film with our pupils. This was great, but also encouraging to know that the equipment that we have been purchasing and ideas that we are developing are close to what is being used in the industry. We look forward to sharing some of this work with you on our screen in the school foyer so do keep an eye out when you are next in.
Many names were put up as Stars on our ‘Westfield Wall of Fame’ but we think everyone was a star.
