We had a mound in our playground which was great fun for running around. However, plants and trees on the mound were getting damaged when pupils held on to them for support when they were playing. We were really worried about the damage to the plant life and Mr Kretz wrote to the School Council asking for their help. They presented the problem in assembly to make all pupils aware, and asked for ideas about how we could look after the plants.
Damian in Wyke class produced a design for wooden posts and rope to make a pathway, meaning that pupils can still play on the mound but that the trees and plants are protected. Our wonderful TA, Caroline Hales, worked with a group of pupils to dig holes, mix concrete and fix the wooden posts in the ground, plant new trees and cut back the overgrown vegetation. The result looks amazing, and we are so grateful to everyone involved who worked so hard over several days. A true team!
