‘We learnt during the holiday the sad news of the death of Wendy Pearce. Wendy was Deputy Headteacher here at Westfield from 1991 to 2008 and was central to the sustained progress and achievement of the school during that time. Phil Silvester CBE worked alongside Wendy throughout his time here as Headteacher and kindly offered us these thoughts:
‘I had the privilege of working alongside Wendy for 16 successful years at Westfield.
When I arrived in January 1993 Wendy was the Deputy Headteacher at Westfield School (as it was then). Wendy made my transition to Westfield and Dorset as straightforward as it could have been. I will always be grateful to her for the kindness she showed me, my wife and family during that period.
Wendy was the consummate Deputy Headteacher; she was well-organised, talented, hard-working, sympathetic and – above everything else – loyal. The success that Westfield enjoyed over the coming years would not have been possible without Wendy’s good humour, determination and imaginative approach to everything. As Deputy, Wendy had professional responsibility for the secondary half of the school and was crucially important to the many notable achievements and successes Westfield enjoyed during that period. Westfield, its pupils, parents and staff owe her so much….
Wendy retired in 2008 at the same time as I left my position as Headteacher. She was a wonderful lady – engaging, witty, kind and – in adversity – a ‘rock’. I am both delighted and proud to have worked alongside her for 16 glorious years. I will not forget her.’
