Secondary art department celebrated the Chinese New Year with a week of art activities aimed at raising awareness of the traditions and values surrounding the Chinese New Year and its celebrations. Each pupil discovered which character animal they were according to the Chinese Zodiac and the characteristics of this animal. Arts activities involved creating Chinese fans, designing and printing a snake themed stamp, making 3D snakes, banners and lanterns. Pupils also worked alongside artist Darrell Wakelam in creating a large dragon. One pupil shared his skills as part of his Artsaward and worked alongside one of the younger pupils in creating the dragon.
Southwell class invited our Monday afternoon art group to share in a Chinese meal. It was delicious!
All work is on display in school and can be seen until the end of term, so do take a look if you are coming into school.
Chinese New Year 2013 started on February 10th and this year is the year of the snake.
