VOX POPS COMPETITION
AIR 107.2 is currently running a competition exclusive to Westfield Arts College students. We want you to record a simple piece of audio that can be played on AIR… The best will win a class trip to MFA Bowling in town and have their recording played on the radio.
We are making it really easy for your class to create something that will sound really good on the radio.
We want your class to create a VOX POP.
What is a VOX POP?
VOX POP IS A LATIN WORD WHICH BASICALLY MEANS ‘VOICE OF THE PEOPLE.’
IT’S A METHOD USED IN MEDIA TO QUICKLY FIND OUT OPINIONS OF PEOPLE RELATING TO LOTS OF DIFFERENT TOPICS.
How do you make a VOX POP?
The procedure is very simple; you first have to think of an interesting question that will force an interesting answer. It is best to use an open question. You then ask this question to about 10 people and edit together their answers.
You can record your vox pop using a zoom recorder (come and borrow one from the studio if you haven’t got one) an iPad or a computer. Think about where you are recording. Try not to have too much background noise: for example shield the microphone from the wind or traffic if you’re recording outside, use headphones to monitor as you record and ensure that you have good healthy levels.
You can edit your vox pop/answers in whatever programme you feel most confident using or Mr Greenham and Mrs Bungay are happy to help you edit using Audacity if you would like them to. Add sound effects, backing music or sound clips from the internet… Make it interesting for our listeners to hear.
Don’t forget your vox pops will be judged by our panel of judges and the best one will be played on AIR 107.2 to a potential audience of 60,000 people and win their class a trip bowling!! Don’t delay…get vox popping now – closing date for entries is Fri 14th Feb.
