17 post-16 students spent the weekend on Portland as part of the National Citizenship 
Service (NCS). The weekend was organised and run by staff from the NCS based at Weymouth College and staff from the Portland Sailing Academy. The pupils all had an amazing time and all achieved enormously from the experience. Anxiety was high on Friday as pupils did not know what to expect. I went along as a ‘fly on the wall’ and was reduced to tears by the achievement of all pupils. Some overcame concerns about sleeping in a room with others, one pupil interacted and played with others for the first time, others conquered fears of activities. We were so proud of everyone. They will now
have 4 days of community visits and activities before deciding on what they would like to give back to the community. We look forward to finding out what they choose to do.
