On Thursday 29th November Debbie Legg and Rachel Carr from the You First Charity will be leading a secondary assembly plus delivering workshops throughout the day.
Debbie is the Children and Young Persons Domestic Abuse Advocate for Dorset County. She works for a charity called ‘The You Trust’ and as part of the charity they have a service called You First. You First supports women, men and children who have or are experiencing domestic violence and abuse, sexual violence and stalking. They provide support in the community within 3 refuges, 1 of which is equipped for men and couples fleeing abuse.
Every year there is an international event called ’16 days of Activism’ with the aim to stop violence and abuse, the start of 16 days is marked by an International Day Against Violence on 25th November whereby organisations and the community are asked to come together to end violence and abuse.
In Dorset they are focusing the 16 days towards children and young people who have or are experiencing violence and abuse, therefore as part of the PSHE curriculum, in particular Westfield’s focus on RSE (Relationship Sex Education) we are working in partnership with ‘you first’ to raise awareness of domestic abuse, sexual violence and stalking to pupils, staff and parents. A parents coffee morning
(9:45 am – 10:45 am) will be headed by Debbie Legg from the Charity. All parents welcome.
