In conjunction with The Arts Development Company and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty team at Dorset County Council, a group of Sixth Form Art pupils have been involved with the ridgeway project. The project has enabled pupils to work with a professional artist and learn more about the local landscape and respond to it in a creative way. The first day involved a site visit to the White Horse area at Osmington, with a good walk around the area pupils recorded the landscape through drawings, photography and textural rubbings. During the second day the group worked with artist Darrell Wakelam back in school responding to what they had seen during the site visit. Using their photographs and drawings as a starting point, with direction from Darrell, pupils used a full range of materials to create a textural relief of the landscape.
The pupils, staff and Darrell thoroughly enjoyed the experience and produced some fantastic Art work. There are now plans to display the work out in the local community – watch this space!
