Students in the sixth form at Westfield stay with us for up to three years, according to their needs, and are based either in our Post 16 Centre on the school site or at our Westfield@Weymouth College base in the town.
With their compulsory education behind them, the very clear focus for our students is on life after school and how to achieve the ambitions they have for what lies ahead. The starting point for each student is absolutely the student themselves. What is that they want to achieve from their time in our sixth form? What do they want it to lead on to? What does Westfield need to do in order to support them to achieve this?
Armed with this information, and after full consultation with parents, an individual programme is put together that focuses on the key objectives the student has identified. Our students are usually clear sighted in targeting social development, increased independence, the further development of core skills, preparation for work (or other meaningful activities) and education for leisure as their main objectives for their time with us.
Students and their parents who would like to know more about life and learning in the sixth form at Westfield are welcome to visit the school at any time. Please contact the office for an appointment.
