What an amazing time we all had at this year’s Jubilee Challenge. This year for the first time we had students participating in all 4 walks:
Route 1: 7.8 miles
Route 2: 8.7 miles
Route 3: 11 miles
Route 4: 15 miles
21 students and 15 staff took part in the event, with support from record numbers of parents. Friday saw gale force winds, but no complaints from camp Westfield. We all had the opportunity to look inside one of the rescue helicopters, which was fascinating.
Saturday morning started with the jubilant sound of Chariots of Fire. Everyone was up at 5am – again no complaints. We were at the start line at 6.45 am, ready to see the students take off on the Ten Tors. This year is the fourteenth anniversary of the Jubilee Challenge, the Ruby Anniversary. Walk 4 has been renamed The Ruby Walk in recognition of Ruby Mai Porter’s tremendous effort in last year’s event. Ruby and her family were at the start line and Ruby had the honour of starting the event, surrounded by her family and students from Westfield. A great moment for us all!
The students looked amazing, walking in their red hoodies. Everyone completed the walk and received not only a bronze, silver or gold medal but also a Ruby red one. A big thank you to staff and students from Budmouth College who helped on each of the walks. A truly inspirational weekend!
