Governors Meeting Update February 2016
As we approach the end of the financial year, the school has once again managed its finances effectively. We are anticipating a small surplus which has allowed us to bring forward a number of school improvements. During the February half tern the corridors in some of the old part of the school will be redecorated and during the Easter break the new Drama Studio will start to have the theatrical lighting installed.
The sixth form provision at Weymouth College (Westfield@Weymouth) and in The Bungalow are now well established and currently exceeding our first year expectations. The twin approach adopted to ensure that our students progress to achieve their desired outcomes of either Developing Independence or Moving Towards Employment remains on track.
The introduction of Government legislation and Ofsted directives have required the governing body to be far more diligent in their understanding of the outcomes of the students’ education and wellbeing. In order to effectively carry this out we have decided to split the Curriculum and Standards committee and form a Teaching Learning and Outcomes Committee and a Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare Committee. In order to implement this change we will have to increase the size of the Governing Body, this will include recruiting one further Parent Governor and also recruiting new Governors from the local community. If you know of someone who is used to handling and understanding data and would like to become a Governor of an outstanding school then please let us know.
