New parent governors Paula Van Breda and John Moloney were welcomed to their first governors meeting. The first half of the meeting was taken up by Safeguarding (Child Protection) training to ensure that all governors remain up to date with their training.
We then discussed the development of Post 16 provision within the school. I am pleased to report that it is our intention to appoint a Head of Sixth Form commencing Sept 2014. We continue to purchase IT equipment and will shortly meet our goal of all children in the school having access to suitable individual IT equipment
We are also happy to report that the school achieved re-accreditation to the International Schools Award at the highest level. The school was also delighted to achieve Investors in People Gold Award. We are one of only around 700 businesses and organisations to achieve this across the UK.
Teaching School Alliance (TADSS) Governors Meeting 25th November 2013
Representatives from all 5 Special schools in Dorset met at the Dorford centre in Dorchester. We received a comprehensive brief from Mrs Mackavoy on how all five strands of TADSS were progressing (Continuous Professional Development, Research and Development, School to School Support, Initial Teacher Training and Leadership Development). Emma King from Beaucroft School gave a talk on her experience of shadowing our own Deputy Head, Mrs Bidwell, as part of her leadership development.
Margaret Judd from Dorset County Council explained the Governments proposals for funding Special Schools over the next 2 financial years and explained the effect these changes would have on our schools. In order to try and mitigate some of the foreseen problems all 5 schools agreed that their Headteachers and Chair of Governors would write to the Prime Minister and Education Secretary highlighting some of the shortfalls and proposing alternative solutions. It is hoped that this action will strengthen the bond between our schools and lead to more collaborative working.
